I always say

There are two guaranteed ways to spoil a tour and well planned holiday.

One: If you get sick and two if you have vehicle damage.

Personal health

This should be the prime concern of any 4x4 tour guide worth his salt.

I will advise all groups of general health issues like dehydration, diarrhoea, what to eat and what not to eat, tropical deceases etc.

I also carry a full first aid kit and I am a qualified first aider.

AED

One of the items that not many guides carry is a defibrillator. If your heart stops, the only way to get it going again is with a defibrillator, CPR will only buy time for the defibrillator to arrive. CPR does not start your heart. So in the event that you have a heart attack I carry an automatic defibrillator that can restart your heart.

Vehicle safety

All vehicles suffer mechanical breakdown at some stage. So don’t stress about it, if it happens to you we will deal with it at the time.

What I do not do is go out looking for trouble. We do not have competitions to see who can drive the steepest dunes or the deepest rivers. If we find a water crossing we will go around it if possible, if not we will find the safest way to cross it. Even if it means towing vehicles through.

In other words we try to keep our vehicles healthy as well. So if you are looking for 4x4 competitions you will have to go somewhere else.
